GM Diet Fail or Fab???
So, my husband and I tried a cleanse this week. It’s called the GM Diet. Now, mind you, we have never done a cleanse before, and this particular one is supposed to last 7 days. Our goal is 5 days, then a modified 6th day, with it ending on Day 7, because, well, it’s my birthday, and I’ll be damned if I starve myself on my birthday weekend. And let me tell you something about the GM Diet, it is a complete bitch! It has absolutely taken it out of me physically, mentally, and emotionally. Sounds fun, huh?!?!?
We are on day 5 {THANK GOD} and the fact that we are still married is a miracle. I am not sure if it says something about the cleanse or about how much we needed to be cleansed. But, major changes are happening! Let me reiterate…it is a BITCH. Does it work? That is yet to be decided.
Here’s the gist…
An open letter to our beloved cat, Dallas
Thanks for the kick ass 16 years, baby! From the moment you were born, you were a fighter. Daddy cut the umbilical cord wrapped around your neck which saved your life! We knew from that moment on we would keep you! You were the runt, after all, and we tend to love those runts.
Making moves from Dallas {Greenville Ave.}, to Addison, to Lewisville was never a problem for you. Indoor-outdoor..all with ease. Thanks for never bothering us with a cat box! I think your favorite place to live was Lakehill Lane.
You loooooved living by the lake. I specifically remember several times having to catch live bunnies, birds, and frogs running wild in the house, that you had brought in through the kitty door. One particular morning you were loudly meowing and nudging me to wake up. So, even though I was tired I followed you downstairs, as you rubbed the banister going down purring and meowing the whole way. This is where I found a poor snake that had been neatly and methodically taken apart. It was no doubt a GIFT. I knew it then and I still believe those were prizes for me. Even though some of them were messy and crazy, I loved every last one of them. Thanks, Dallas!
Crawfish Spring Rolls w/ Sriracha-Honey Dipping Sauce
Oh, good lawd! Crawfish again! If you know me, or my husband, or my friends, you will understand that crawfish are holy. They are spicy, you have to work hard to get them out of their hard shell, but they are well worth the effort. They are versatile. And they only come around for a few short months during the year. I can only imagine the possibilities of crawfish recipes…Well, here’s one!!
Pulled Chicken Spring Rolls w/ Jalepeño Avocado Dipping Sauce
I love spring rolls! I’ve never tried making them. So, for my first attempt, what do I do? I decide to enter it into a recipe contest, of course. Isn’t that what any sane person would do?
The recipe contest is at Better Recipes. What a wonderful site! There’s a large collection of ideas and recipes from many self-made cooks, just like myself, and every week they feature a recipe contest, each with a different challenge. Bring it on, yo!
Sriracha Crawfish Sliders w/ Roasted Cherry Mayo
Yes, ohhhhh, yes! CRAWFISH. We love crawfish. To put it lightly, we could not live without these yummy, spicy, freshwater crustaceans. Every year, sometime around April or May, a huge group of our friends gather for our annual crawfish boil. It’s stupid-fun. It’s a huge tradition we have kept for 17 years and for the most part one or two of our dear friends would spend the entire day boiling crawfish for around 50 of our closest friends. My husband was this person for a good 5 years, so the last couple we have outsourced the boiling, mainly because I wanted my husband to enjoy the boil just as much as everyone else. I will do a crawfish boil post when that time comes back around and post some pictures, but for now, a recipe involving these gorgeous creatures…
